I wish there'd been a hat that looks good on male characters, but it's not like you can wear them as armor anyway. It's entirely cosmetic. And it's a couple of event items in a game, so not worth a tantrum.

I think it would have been better if there wasn't that hair cowl thing on the back, but the artists and designers didn't have time to design it around every hairstyle in the game, most of them are working hard on Guild Wars 2 remember.
Nothing to get angry about

I thought we are going to have 4 hats depending on whether you get them from LA or Kamadan and Grenth or Dwayna. Didn't Gaile mention this sometime back?
I am alittle disappointed that the hats in LA and Kamadan are the same.

Not to mention that having someone give you something for free and then telling them it's not good enough is ... yeah.
If you like it, then it's a nice freebie. If you didn't, well hey, it's not going to hurt you.
And for the record, the dungeon rehash quests were awesome ways to farm candy cane shards. They make snowball fights completely unnecessary, which is good since they're pretty annoying these days.

With all due respect to the fan artists, many of the hats submitted, and the hat the won, was not workable with the model system in Guild Wars. I'm sorry that we did not better communicate that before the contest, but you can't have something that sits just on top of the head, because everyone below the edge -- in this case everything below the top of the ears -- would be absolutely bald. I don't know if the same model parameters will exist in Guild Wars 2, but for Guild Wars, the modifications to the hat design were absolutely essential.

That's because of the district doesn't exist at the exact time that the event begins, the Gods won't appear. This is to prevent people from district hopping, hoping to spawn events for hours on end.
Be in a district that was formed before the event started and you're good.

The current one sits on top of the head already, and has fake blond hair added. People are complaining that it looks like dirty ice, not the glowing magical ice of the concept art.

Oh, and after seeing "epic fail" about 50 times tonight, I'm starting to associate the phrase with "emo QQer who wants to sound leet".
More varied vocabulary would work wonders, thanks.
P.S. Thanks for the party in ID1 tonight, Gaile. Sure, it got gatecrashed by flamers later on, but there will always be people like that...

i personally think the Ice Crown could of been better, peoples expectations are usually much higher than actual outcome, which will always leads to disappointment, besides you cant please everyone.
i havent yet got the other hat, which in my opinion looks cool. Gaile can i change my hair style if it gets singed by candles but still i think overall they did a good job.

I like the Dwayna hat. It's a very nice rendition of the Santa Lucia crown and the candles are just so pretty. I think it makes sense for Dwayna to have a hat like it, since it symbolizes light.
Still, agreed that it's not quite a guy hat, but at least most female characters should be happy.
The ice crown wasn't as nice as I'd hoped, but it's still ok. I'm happy enough with it, especially since I'm sure Anet tried their best in the time given to them and with the technical limitations. The hair on it looks a little weird, but at least characters won't be totally bald.
At least no more variations of horns this year. \o/

Typical ANet response. Pretty sure if it glowed and looked more like the actual design, even if your character had no hair underneath it, people would like it.

As with mainly everyone else in this thread, I too was disappointed by the hats. It was hyped up a bit too much, and on the ice crown I was expecting some sort of fluffy thing below the ice, as well as it at least kinda glowy looking. Actually, I kinda like the dwayna crown. I feel bad for those with male chars though, totally dosen't match with them at all

Exactly we are complaining about the ICE crown LOOKS like dirty coal ice not all whitish/blue glow as in the pic Nain submitted.
How hard is it to just change the colour that wouldn't have affected the design or Baldness JUST the colour.
You missed the Point Gaile sorry
I wish I could dye it white at lest.
Oh well thanks anyway for the gift at lest it's something I guess.

With all due respect. See yule cap, both versions. The designer just didn't seem to give a crap IMO.

It's sad that the models are so 'old' that such a thing can't be changed for this Guild Wars, but then again there's only so much forward thinking a pack of designers can do (programmers as well, paticularly when it comes to random pieces of code).
It was put on the winner's page that they design would be changed, but from what I've seen of the general player base, there's not a lot of reading going on. The ice itself is the main problem, for me at least, a glow more like Nian's original would have been nicer, but I realise that the changes were nessacary. I hope others will as well.
Thanks for taking the time to come over and give us some information Gaile, don't let the reationaries spoil your New Year's.
*sets off fireworks* Let's hope I hit next door's Kareeoke machine

I got to Europe-English-Dis 13 at 9.00, the event scheduled for 9.01
Guess what? No hat!
How am I supposed to know when a district was created and if that is in time for the event?
I tried other districts but they were full...
